The LEA focuses on fluid mechanics, and in particular on the study of steady, unsteady and turbulent flows, both compressible and incompressible. The laboratory research activities are supported by high-performance experimental facilities and a wide range of analysis and measurement techniques. In addition, the LEA has significant activity in the field of high-precision numerical simulation. Applied research activity is primarily concerned with the transport domain (nautical, terrestrial, aeronautical and aerospace). The LEA has a strong background in aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, aero-acoustics, electrical discharge, and heat transfer problems, an interacts closely with the others laboratories of the University of Poitiers. Other research activities include the bio-medical, food and civil development domains.
